Minky

A few weeks ago I decided to take on the daunting task of sewing a blanket out of Minky fabric for my little cutie. Honestly, It was one of the harder sewing projects I've ever done. So, here are MY 10 tips to making Minky projects easier.
1. Fabric.com is an awesome site to find any type of minky you are looking for.
2. Cut your material outside. The fibers get everywhere when cutting this type of fabric.
3. Minky fabric stretches with the width, not the length.
4. Pinning will be your best friend. The extra time is well worth it in the end
5. I like to hand stitch the fabric together before I use my sewing machine. (*This step is just my personal choice, not necessarily a necessity.)
6.Put felt in between the two pieces of Minky for better grip and less sliding.
7. Measure, re-measure, and measure again. Make sure you are not pulling the sides. Measure and make sure everything stays even.
8. DO NOT IRON DIRECTLY ON FABRIC!! I learned this one the hard way. Put a towel over the minky or it will melt.
9. Minky is very soft and beautiful on baby blankets but, keep in mind that it is not flame resistant/retardant.
10. Go slow. Sewing minky is a process. It takes time, but the end result can be SO worth it.
